As best we can reconstruct, I had anaphylactic shock from the local anesthesia that had been injected into my skin, combined with very, very low blood sugar. And so I very, very, very slowly got out of my body. And then I popped out, and I was standing in front of it, going, “I didn’t know you could do that!” American attorney and former Catholic Nanci Danison shares how she died during a routine medical procedure and discovered that God is a Creative Energy Source, Earth is a dream, and we are all part of the collective consciousness of the Divine.
Nanci, a partner in a 270-attorney regional law firm, had built a successful career as a health lawyer with a national reputation. In the mid-1990s, her law firm arranged for a mobile mammography unit to visit their parking lot. Days after her mammogram, Nanci was called in for further testing and was scheduled for surgery to remove three tumors from her right breast. During the pre-surgical procedure— a needle localization guided by mammography— Nanci died.
After about eight squishes and two injections of the needle with a wire inside of it, the radiologist and the technician left the room to go get the last set of films developed. And I left too! Then, I saw blackness. But I wasn’t afraid. It was comforting darkness. And then I saw a pinpoint of light. And I said to myself, “Oh, I know what this is. I’m supposed to go into the light.” Did not have the thought that I died. I just recognized what I was supposed to be doing. So I went into the light.
Inside the light, Nanci experienced waves of unconditional love and began receiving what she calls “knowings”— complete downloads of information on topics she had always been curious about. A knowing is different than knowing in human life. Knowings that you receive in the afterlife are complete with every single piece of data that could possibly exist about the topic, along with the sense that you have personally lived it firsthand. So it’s got all the feelings and the emotions and the experience and the sensations and everything all in one bundle. And it’s all at once. Nanci then realized she could see 360 degrees, including through the back of her head. When she saw her body still in the mammography room on Earth, she began to suspect she had died. Instantly, she found herself in a tunnel.
You know how near-death experiences get these glorious tunnels of beautiful colors and lights? I get dirt. I get a dirt floor with stone walls with moss growing on them. I could smell the moss. I could smell the dirt. I could feel the humidity on my skin. I could hear the insects. It’s absolutely completely real. After confirming she had died, Nanci saw five beautiful colored lights that transformed into glowing beings— her eternal friends from all eternity, none of whom she had ever known in human life. They were my eternal friends, and I was home. It was the first time in Nanci’s life that I ever really felt home, and that those were my people.
Nanci then experienced a life review unlike those described by most near-death experiencers. You get inside the other people who were in those various events. And you get to watch it, and feel their emotions and hear their thoughts, and be them participating in the same event. You also get to see if you’d made different choices, how they would have turned out. I started getting a download of all these hundreds and hundreds, or maybe even thousands of other lifetimes I had lived throughout the Universe as all kinds of creatures and things. I was just flabbergasted that I could possibly have ever thought I was Nanci. I mean, that was just ridiculous that I could conceive of an idea that I’m just this little human being when I have lived these eons and eons of other lifetimes.
Nanci then asked what she calls “the big questions”: What is God? What am I? What’s the purpose of life? Where’s Heaven? Where’s hell? And what’s the one true religion? I felt betrayed. I felt like everybody knew this but me. My parents wouldn’t tell me the truth. My church wouldn’t tell me. My Catholic school wouldn’t tell me the truth. Why weren’t they telling me this stuff? I was shown like a documentary history of planet Earth, and how religions developed. So that I could see it was a good-faith attempt by souls that knew there was something more, but they couldn’t figure out what it was.
The answers Nanci received fundamentally changed her understanding of reality. God is an Energy Source, has nothing whatsoever in common with humans. It’s infinitely powerful, all-knowing, unconditionally loving, has a distinct personality, is creative, funny, and curious – extremely curious. It imagined this Universe, like we imagine dreams, and It populated the Universe with creatures and things. And then in order to experience what it was like to be in that Universe, to be inside a human, to be inside a tree, to be inside a rock, be inside a comet, It projected Its own consciousness and self-awareness into those various physical matter things as what humans call the soul. All the wonderful good things that you see humans do, and all the good things that you know about yourself, that’s all you, that source, that’s you operating as source in the physical world. And all the things that you see that are violent and selfish and self-centered and manipulative and evil, that’s just typical animal nature.
Despite wanting to stay, Nanci was sent back to her body after approximately 10–15 minutes of clinical death. Nanci’s experience left her with a clear message about how to live. We can access what I call universal knowledge. One of the things I learned in the afterlife is that we don’t put our entire energy into an incarnation. Part of it stays in the afterlife. So, you can communicate with the part of you that’s still in the afterlife, that knows why you came here, and can give you guidance.
Inspiring quote of the day: “Impossibility is only a sum of greater unrealized possibles. It veils an advanced stage and a yet unaccomplished journey.” - Venerated Enlightened Master Sri Aurobindo (vegetarian)
